Mark Swanson
Mark Swanson is a retired professional who finally has the time to pursue the creativity that years of reading great stories always inspired in him. A lifelong adventure-seeker, he's explored coral reefs as a scuba diver, crossed countless finish lines as a marathon runner, and even crafted his own wine. Now he channels that same drive for exploration into writing — building new worlds, uncovering mysteries, and telling the kinds of stories he always loved to read.
After several years writing technical books on database topics, I've turned to fiction — stories inspired by experiences, events, and travels that mystify and evoke thought.
I write across two very different registers. The Onyx Division series is fast, technology-driven, and rooted in the political and informational pressures of the present moment — the kind of thriller where the real threat is the thing everyone's too busy to notice. My standalone novels, like Red Wine and Jazz and The Lives We Lived, slow down: they're interested in memory, consequence, and how the past sits inside ordinary people for decades before it resurfaces.
